This organization unites patients, their family members, and healthcare professionals to focus national attention and advocate action for advances and change by educating patients, family members and the public on obesity and morbid obesity, improving access to safe and effective medical treatments for obese patients, and striving to eliminate the negative stigma associated with all types of obesity.

Established in 1996 by Walter Lindstrom, it is the first advocacy practice to represent the interests of morbidly obese persons in health care and discrimination matters.
